So, we had just received 3 plain, white playsilks from Paper, Scissors, Stone to dye ourselves. I was going to try Kool-Aid dyeing when I saw this idea from { tiny twist creative }. Dyeing play silks with Easter Egg dye! You might remember last year I dyed some handmade cotton capes with paper Easter grass. Erin and her daughter made a large rainbow play silk that came out beautifully. She's provided a tutorial here. Also Erin's inspiration for dyeing play silks came from this post on rainbow dyeing yarn at small things. And the inspiration continues.
So, for about .29 cents a piece I bought a few egg dying kits and we tried it out. We have a few play silks already and the colors we were missing were blue, yellow and purple. I also really wanted a silk that would be a nice landscape color for playing with the wooden animals I made.
We made one blue & purple. We also added a little orange on our yellow silk. Then for the green silk I combined green and red and a little yellow to find that perfect earthy green.
So here's the blue/ purple silk. The color came out fairly light and pastel.
And here's the yellow/orange.
The green came out interestingly. The colors sort of separated. So there's a sage green with spots of darker green and splotches purple/ red. It's not exactly what I was going for, I wish it were a little greener, but we like it.
and the animals do too! Until next time...

Just beautiful colors, cheers Marie
