"I can sew!"

Michael has been asking to sew for awhile. We tried lacing cards but he grew frustrated with them and hasn't wanted to try again. He was thrilled when he was able to sew this, a caterpillar made of squares of felt.

This was the perfect thing for him to sew as one of our favorite springtime books is "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. We also recently found a caterpillar inching along in our front hallway. We put him in our backyard and Michael was so excited to watch him. He made him a home made of sticks and leaves underneath a tree. He was a bit disappointed later after finding the caterpillar had inched out of his new home.

So caterpillars have been on the brain. Michael picked out all his own squares from a bunch of random colors that I pre cut. I knotted the end and sewed a little face, but other than that he sewed it all together. He was so excited, he screamed "I can sew Mama! Look, I know how to sew!" It was fun and it really boosted his confidence in sewing.

Wow, only 50 more days to go! I hope you're taking it easy, but for some reason I have my doubts. ;)

  3. Thanks! He sure is proud. I was excited his confidence is up now.

Yep, not long now. I am trying to take it easy. Good thing all my craft projects are relaxing to work on. Well, most of them. :)

  4. Inspiring! I'll be copying you ~ I was just wondering what I could do with a bunch of squarey scraps I've had. It is so difficult to throw away any beautiful fabric at all.
