Christmas & my baby is four!

Michael and I, Michael 4 yrs old

I'm playing a bit of catch up now.

So, we decided to save our Christmas for our new clean and healthy place! We just thought Christmas and Michael’s Birthday among boxes and in our mold infested place would be too depressing. We were so busy with packing and me with cleaning every bit of fabric in the house that celebration wasn't the first priority.

I was a little afraid that us not celebrating Xmas on the actual day would be really disappointing, not for Michael because he didn't care, but for my husband and I. So, I decided Michael and I would get up early on Christmas morning, watch the parades, listen to Christmas music and make Christmas cookies to freeze for our postponed Xmas. After that, we went to a friend’s family Christmas party where they were sweet enough to have a few presents for Michael to open. It was a fun day.

Meanwhile we saved all the presents and Christmas cards that were sent from family until we moved. After a few days in the new place and after we had gotten the place unpacked a bit, we decorated for Christmas. I found a tree down the road that someone was throwing out and I dragged it home with the help of a friend. I left it outside in our courtyard because it was loosing it’s fair share of needles but was actually looking great. We decorated it in red wooden beads and homemade cinnamon ornaments made last year and hung pine cones, which we plan to make into little treats for the birds. Michael was all excited for our “Christmas eve”. We gave him the usual Christmas eve present which in our family is always pajamas. Michael was thrilled! He is that odd boy that loves clothes and shoe gifts. Our new place looked magical with the tree outside and lights pooled over the beam running through the kitchen and lights all along the base of the fireplace. We had stockings hung and Santa delivered presents that night. We were able to get Michael his asked for toys with gift cards sent from family. Thank you family! Christmas morning was magical and fun. Michael found the presents right away and could barely wait for Daddy to drag himself out of bed before tearing in. Some of his favorites were a stuffed, barking dog, Superman sent from “Superman Grampa” and of course Spiderman brought by Santa. I’ve decided to stop fighting his interest in Superheroes and just go with it. It’s something him and his Dad LOVE to play together, so, so be it. He most often dresses up in his play masks and capes and pretends he’s a superhero himself anyway. Not one in particular, just a superhero. So I am cool with that.

Later, we made ham dinner and then waited for our friends to arrive for a Birthday party for Michael. Michael's birthday is actually on Christmas eve and while we wouldn't combine the two events in the future right now he's little and he could care less. We invited just a couple of people and it was very low key. I put little effort into it, which was actually great because I could just hang out and have fun. Michael had a blast!

Michael, 4yrs old

He got an adorable little Alaskan husky stuffed animal that came with a little food bowl and igloo house. A lego Cars set from Gramm and Grampa which he loves, a dvd and other things I can't remember.

Oh and let’s not forget the beloved “Adventures of Frog and Toad” an anthology of all the stories. He let out a little cry of thrill upon opening that one. He ran around like a crazy man with buddy Morgan and ate many chocolate zucchini cupcakes. I called my Mom and Dad to say “Merry Christmas!”, and they thought I was a little bit nutty, but we had a blast. A very fun Christmas & Birthday in January!
