Wild and Free

One of the things I miss most living in the desert southwest is the beach! Here in NY where I grew up we we are very close to Lake Erie. On vacations as a kid we often headed for the beach. Michael had never experienced the beach before. We were in for an adventure...
As soon as we got there I took Michael out. It was a warm day but the water was chilly. Michael wasn't very happy about it at first but I started splashing him and the idea of splashing me was too enticing for him. Soon I had him out where it was deep. We had the best time splashing about.

Michael and I

Michael was very curious about Seagulls and had a great time chasing them around the beach.

Sorry to include this poor creature but I must convey the complete and utter motherly horror when my child picked this up and rasing it over his head screamed "Look Mom, a fish!" I was too busy screaming for him to put it down to snap a picture. That would have been a great one!

While potty training Michael I was completely pleased to see Michael pull down his pants to his ankles and pee where ever we were outdoors. Now, however? At the beach about 10 feet away from a couple of ladies enjoying the view, no pun intended, Michael whipped down his trunks and peed. He did this twice.

Also, while I was turned and talking to my Mom, Michael whipped off his trunks and ran to the lake. All Mom did was nonchalantly cock her head and say "he's skinny dipping." The entire beach was in an uproar. Oh, to be three years old. Wild and completely free!
