Growing Things

I have been wanting to grow wheat grass for awhile and I finally gathered all the supplies and began. I've had juicer troubles, so I haven't been as consistent in growing and juicing as I would like. Michael wanted to be involved so I let him add the dirt and help me water. The spray bottle is his favorite and he often asks to take it outside and play, something that keeps him busy for a half hour or more! He sprays all the plants and toys. I can't speak for the toys but my plants love it.

Then Michael planted these Forget-Me-Nots, his choice.

Since then we've grown morning glories, marigolds, & zinnias from seed for a special project. Our bamboo teepee! I saw this on The Artful Parent, and fell in love with it!

Michael helped me put up the teepee in the evening, while it was cool. He was instrumental. He handed me supplies and materials throughout and helped me dig too. This is how it looked just before planting.

And this is how it looks today. The doorway is on the left side, towards the wall so that when it's covered it will be more of a hideaway place.

With all the rain we've gotten our seedlings seem pretty happy. Can't wait until the Morning Glories are covering it. We also want to decorate the inside with a hanging mobile of wooden bugs left over from the kid's painting project at Monica's shower.

Next green project is hopefully a fall garden in a re purposed kids pool. Can't wait!

  1. Becca,
Looks good what materials did you use? I would like to try this but not sure where to start.

  2. We have bamboo everywhere here so I just freecycled the bamboo- 6, 8 ft pieces. I've read also that you can get bean poles at Garden centers often for free. Then I used Hemp string to wrap it tight at the top and then around the body so that the morning glories can climb it. People also grow beans and moon flowers as well. I'd love to find some moon flowers! I just haven't looked.
