New in the Garden...

My husband built this arbor for us to grow our tomatoes and cucumbers on. I've also planted beans and flower seeds on the other side. I had wanted to just make a simple & movable tent like frame but he insisted that it wouldn't hold up to our NM winds. 

I'm the type of person that gets something in my head and doesn't want to let go of it. We had a little argument about that.  Just look at the cute little frame the pumpkins are growing on in this pic on my Gardening board on Pinterest.  Cute, cute, but not what my husband had in mind.

After building just one side we had a huge wind & rain storm come through and it stood firm. I'm glad he suggested the arbor, he's put a lot of pride and work into it and we really love how it looks. 

Kiki lovs to climb it as well, particularly when she spies a bird.  She is my protector of the garden, my "bouncer".  Though I really don't like when she brings me a lizard. Thankfully, they're usually faster than she.

We've already been harvesting some summer squash & little tomatoes here and there and now the zucchini (my favorite!) looks just about ready to produce.

We have 3 watermelon plants growing, can't wait to see them produce.  I also just planted some pumpkin seeds and see little sprouts coming up.  I hope we'll have little baking pumpkins in the Fall.

My Gramma's favorite flowers are blue Morning Glories.  I planted a few around the yard for her the day after she passed and said a little prayer for them & her.  They popped up just days after planting.  I hope I can get them to grow up the arbor, wouldn't that be beautiful!? I'm sure my Gram will approve.

I'm not supposed to be letting these strawberries fruit this year, but just look at how pretty they are!  We've gotten just a few and I have big plans for strawberries next year.  Most of the plants died off but I think I know now where they are happy in our yard.  Here in NM it's almost in complete shade. 

I can't seem to get enough of iced peppermint tea, so I'll have to grow more peppermint next year.  

 

Last garden update I showed the flowers my Mom and I planted while she was here.  They are really filling out beautifully.  I thought the purple ones were going to die off but they've come back happily.  Thanks for coming with me on my garden tour, writing about it makes me want to get out there and be in it.  Off to play!
