So the past couple of weeks I have been planning our Waldorf Inspired Second Grade! I was too excited to get my new planner. I bought it on sale at Target and I love the animals on the cover and how it jives with 2nd grade animal tales & Fables! I also had to buy a coordinating notebook for all my notes. Yes, I'm a nerd like that. It's always so much fun to plan. It's when I get to implementing my plans that I struggle. So this is my inner work for this year- Stick-to-itiveness.
There were some things that I didn't get to last year. So this year we will try knitting & music. It should be fun and lots of learning for us both. I'm enjoying reading about Festivals with "Celebrating Festivals with Children" by Freya Jaffke. I'm also thinking about how I can introduce some fun things for my little Owen. I'm looking for stories, verses & finger plays for him. I want to find ways to keep him happy while Michael & I work.
I've started Melisa Nielsen's program called Thinking, Feeling, Willing which is Waldorf Home school teacher training. It's really helping me to think deeply about our rhythm right now. I'll be restructuring and working to get to the bottom of some of my aversions to rhythm and routine. Why oh why do I fight it?! There's so much right now that I'm thinking about and mulling over. It feels like good work, needed work to progress with our homeschooling. I struggle with a sense of weighty "RESPONSIBILITY" when it comes to my son's learning. I'm trying to let that feeling go and just trust.
How are you doing homeschoolers? Are you already planned? What are you working on right now for your school year?
Until next time...

Dear Mamawestwind
ReplyDeleteI'm just about to forward to the second Class to prepare. I'm looking forward to the new school year. I always find it fascinating to read of you homeschooling parent. It is very inspiring, but in Germany it is not possible. I am very fortunate that I teach a wonderful small class with 12 children. This past school year was very special. The class is so different from my previous class, I was 8 years of school teaching and accompanying. It's a bit like having your own children, who are also quite different.
We will learn all small letters, to do math, draw mirrorshapes, listening to fables, fairy tales and legends, singing, talking, dancing, playing, laughing, arguing, reconciling, play theater, flutes, knitting and crocheting, eurythmy, ...
Teaching is just as exciting as learning.
Much you enjoy each other.
(Great notebook!)
Greetings
Nula
Sounds so fun Nula! You are so blessed to be apart of a Waldorf Community. I too am fascinated at hearing about Waldorf teachers and schools. What are mirrorshapes? Is this form drawing?
DeleteNot already planned, but trying to shoehorn planning in in the evenings (along with brushing up on French language) - although, really I should be planning rather than catching up on blogs ;0)
ReplyDeleteMelissa's TFW programme sounds really good, I have similar aversions to rhythm and routine and I do think TFW might help with that.
Yes, I'm with ya, planning through my evenings! And also luckliy, a few days at the library while dh is home with the kids. I do love TFW, it's helping so much!
DeletePlanning and planning and reading and reading. There is always so much to learn! We have just started our Form Drawing and I am going to do an extended few weeks of that to help settle into a rhythm before September hits. I figure if we can gain footing on our rhythm now, and become secure in it, we can add in the few things we do with groups in September without worry that it will disrupt us too much. that is the plan anyway :) Good luck and I am looking forward to hearing about your journey this year!
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you as well and good for you in starting early. I had thought about starting sooner with forms but I am still too involved in my plans at the moment. I have a one track mind!
DeleteAH! we are doing 2nd grade too, thanks for the great book ideas. We're moving now, and when we get into the new place and have beds to sleep on I may well make a better 'plan'. We have loved the singing year and knitting with children, but I think i'm going to buy the waldorf book of poetry--i've heard it recommended. and, i have to make some gnomes! i'm really excited about teaching math this way, love waldorf math...
ReplyDeleteI love Waldorf Math too, it's so fun! I also really love the Waldorf book of poetry, it's such a great resource.
DeleteI've been working through Thinking Willing Feeling too-- Melisa is amazing. Thanks for linking up on Waldorf Wednesday!
