A Day in Farm Country

We had a beautiful day in New Mexico countryside this week.  We went to visit a friend out in desert farm country.  That sounds like an oxymoron but it's true.  There is desert, pecan orchards & fields of onions all in the same area.

Michael and his best buddy Morgan were holding hands as I took this picture.  Darn, missed it!

And here's little brother trying to catch up to the big boys.

We went for a long walk between the fields.

There was a lovely earthy smell of onions in the air as we were walking.

The boys had a blast in the shade of the pecan orchard

and decided to build a fort.

They decorated it with fallen, green apples from under the apple tree.

It was a beautiful relaxing day.

Until next time...

  2. Hi Becca! Thanks for posting your photos. It's the only way I get to see different areas of the world! I'm beginning to see that what I always thought was "normal" is vastly different from other areas of the world. I noticed how flat the land is in your photo, the mountains are so far away! We are totally surrounded by mountains and mature forests so the only time you see a flat surface is when you are on the west side of the island looking out over the Pacific Ocean! (or when you are on top of one of the mountains! ha ha!) Some call it claustrophobic, whereas I feel very protected.
Is that middle patch of blue in the first photo cloud or distant mountains?

    1. Yes, in NM the sky and desert is expansive & wide. At least in our part of the state. There are forests and mountains here too, like the Gila Mountains. My friend has said (she grew up here) that anywhere she travels now she feels claustrophobic until she gets back to NM's big wide skies. The patch of blue are mountains and they're actually not too far away. We live very close to them, about a 20 minute drive. In the picture though they're a bit farther than that. I would love to see more pics of where you are. I know, right? blogging is the easiest way to travel. lol

  3. What gorgeous scenery! And the fort building, there is something so universal about it. What is childhood without forts?

    1. It was that kind of day. Making plans for another just like it. It's so important to get away, if only for an afternoon.
