crazy week & a fun day...

Happy belated Memorial day!  I hope everyone had a beautiful weekend.

This past week has been a little crazy for us.  My husband is on vacation, yay!  However, he barely had one day off when the frame on his car gave way.  The frame?! This is a car that we have put so much money into. (sigh) We bought it used, paid it off last year and since then have replaced almost every mechanism in the thing! We have been sinking in a money pit and didn't even fully realize it.  The frame was the final straw.  (Thankfully, he was only driving about 20 miles an hour when his tires started to buckle in!)

So we did something we've never done before. We bought a car! A new car!  Not just new to us but new! I'm so grateful that not only did we find the perfect car for our family but that this all happened on his vacation.  So we were able to deal with it without the added pressure of how to get to work.  I have to say that we are, or have been, a paycheck to paycheck kind of family. So the idea of buying a new car never crossed our minds. This is pretty huge for us!  My husband commutes an hour a way for his job and a dependable car is just necessary.  I had no idea how stressed our cars were making us. No more worrying if the car will make it!  No more worrying about repairs!  Yay for three year warranties!

We've also realized that we do not go anywhere.  We have all of the lovely Southwest at our disposal and we never go anywhere because we've always been in survival mode.

So we've been enjoying our new found freedom.  The freedom of getting into a car and knowing it will get you where you want to go.  Wow, what a revelation!  What a relief!  (By the way my car is parked & needing a fuel pump!)  But hey, we have one good car!

So yesterday we went where the wind blew us.  We traveled to a cute little town near us.  (And yes, my boys dressed themselves.)

We had ice cream in the town square.

We walked around to see the sites.  Doesn't this look like the perfect door to a secret garden?

Those are grapes climbing the house! Must try this!

Lovely tile work on that same house.

The beautiful church at the center of town.

A funky shop near the square.

Then we hopped in the car again to travel on.  We passed over the Rio Grande, that is not so grand this time of year.

We saw beautiful sites along the way.

And on to Hatch, the chili capital of the world.  We had dinner here & there is nothing better than a green chili smothered burrito.

I feel like our world has just grown a little bit bigger.

Until next time...

  2. Oh yes, we drive old cars too! Mine is a 1998 and it's our newest vehicle (but in excellent condition). And hubby's car is in need of a few repairs.(we've had her 17 years) We basically "drive them into the ground"!
    Enjoy your new found freedom!

  3. Such a beautiful destination for your jaunt... And, mmmm... that drippy ice cream cone! Those boots on your little man remind me of my little Mr. at that age. He would wear his galoshes everywhere, and they were very special galoshes -- styled like cowboy boots! We still have those boots... they are too large yet for wee Bloom, but that doesn't stop him from occasionally dragging one of them out from their dusty corner of the garage and stomping about, one-booted with great verve and swagger!)

Happy adventuring in your new wheels...
