Candles & Gratitude!
Recently I won a giveaway of a Beeswax Candle making Kit from A Toy Garden through Little Acorn Learning. We had never rolled candles before so I was excited to try it. Just a week prior I had bought a pastel kit that I saw went on sale. The kit we won has mostly bright colors so now we have a fun variety of color.
Can I just tell you how very grateful I am for these giveaways! When I think back to last year... I used to go through our lessons crossing off all of the projects we couldn't do because I couldn't afford the supplies for them. Now, between giveaways, trading and my MamaWestWind store which I have designated toward home school, we are able to do all the projects I have listed in my lessons. I cannot even express how grateful I am for this!
Michael & Owen loved this project. Of course Owen is a bit young for it, but he really wanted to make a candle. I wish I could say it all went smoothly but with Owen and his little grabby hands and Michael and his many questions, it was chaos! So, Owen rolled this candle with my help and then he was sent off to play. Things calmed way down after that and everyone was happy. (I have to add, had I organized this better or worked with the boys one on one it would have been easier.)
Michael rolling his candle.
And decorating it for Spring.
Michael decorated Owen's candle too. So, here are our dinnertime candles. They were both so proud they made our dinnertime candles.
I just recently bought these unfinished wooden candle holders and put a beeswax finish on them. Michael and I made the tapered candles to fit.
And one to decorate our Spring Nature table! It was such a fun activity and I think we'll have plenty of candles for a year of celebrating! Thanks so much to Little Acorn Learning and A Toy Garden!
Until next time...

What wonderful candles! Your Spring Nature Table is truely inspired - so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI bought some candle making supplies awhile ago but we haven't pulled them out yet. Might have to soon :-)
I also find this community very giving and am very thankful for giveaways and swaps. And well done on the success of your shop - your crafts are wonderful!
Thank you! It is a giving community. And I didn't even mention the swaps!
ReplyDeleteLovely, cheers Marie
ReplyDeleteI recently won my first giveaway ever. It is so fun to be blessed with such treats. Y'alls candles are great.
ReplyDeleteYour candles are lovely, I especially like the one with grass blades around the base! We recently made some candles as well! I started the kids off with small candles that we use a lot of in our small candle holders. http://madebyjoey.blogspot.com/2012/02/happy-valentines-day.html
ReplyDeleteI found the raw beeswax sheets at our local farm/garden centre kind of shop in the bee keeping section. The sheets are used in the hives to start them off. I believe they called it drone wax? It was half the price of what the craft store used to sell it for. I was thrilled to find this source so I thought I would pass on the info.
We have been lucky to win several giveaways as well, this community is so generous, helpful and kind!
xoxo

ps. Your gnome and caterpillar egg are adorable!
My kids really loved making the rolled candles too. We get them very affordably at our local beekeepers... I've had lots of requests from co-op members and will probably start offering them in the summer (once it gets to be frosty at night, the sheets can crack if they get too hard, so there is a "window of opportunity" here in the north for mail order sheets. You, my friend, win so many of the giveaways because you have a heart of gold... couldn't go to a more deserving person!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you friend!
DeleteYour candles are so creative and I love seeing glimpses into your home in the background. So sunny and bright. Especially that shot of the bowl of stones, sofa and giant yellow painting. Makes me feel like I'm visiting with you in the living room :) Thank you for welcoming us in!
