Making Story Eggs!

This idea is from mamaroots at rhythm of the home.  She gives an excellent tutorial here. And check out her lovely etsy store here.  (One of her magical creatures found it's way to our house for Michael's Easter basket)

As soon as I saw her beautiful story eggs I knew I had to make some for my boys' Easter baskets.  Michael loves stories, as all children do.  He loves to hear them and he loves to make them up.  So I think these story eggs will be a big hit. The idea is that you line the eggs up and make up a story.  So simple and creative!

The eggs are wood burned and then painted in watercolor and sealed with beeswax.  Each egg has two pictures, so the toadstool for instance has the frog on the other side.  I chose some images I knew my boys would love with no particular story in mind.

A hedgehog, a rain cloud with a little sleepy face, a bunny, and moon.

A sunrise, rainbow, tulip, and caterpillar.

Of course a toadstool!  A hedgehog, our gnomes, and a leaf on the other side of the caterpillar.  I think I'm more excited for Easter than my boys are!  I can't wait to see them opened and the story begun!

More wood-burning to come.

  13. I made some story eggs b/c of Mamaroots too! I use them in my classroom for telling a story about Tiptoes Lightly. The children sequence them and use them to retell the story themselves. Yours are beautiful, and have inspired me to make more! : )

Here are mine in case you want to see them too:

  24. Ah! Why didn't I think of this? WONDERFUL. I love the colors you've used. And thank you for connecting me with the idea. Bought a professional grade woodburner last fall and haven't even taken it out of the box yet. Too much knitting and felting and living - never enough time for all the fun. I am grateful for your showing me this fun!
