We saw a broken water balloon on the ground and Michael said "Someone should pick that up so the birds don't get it". I nodded in agreement and then I have to admit we walked by.
About 10 yards past Michael said, "Wait Mom, I'm going to go get it. Because we have to take care of the earth!" he yelled as he ran. We found many more broken water balloons on the ground.
We had a small brown, paper sack in the stroller and so we decided to pick up the trash we saw as we walked. He soon filled it and we resolved to bring a larger one next time.
I've thought about picking up trash on our walks before, but it always seemed like an event. We'd have to have bags, maybe gloves. I'm so proud of my little guy for taking the initiative. It's simple to him; see trash & pick it up. Of course it's that simple!
We just recently saw video of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. I see him making connections.
We soon spotted this baby Morning Dove who was just learning to fly.
I love to think that Michael made the world a tiny bit safer & cleaner for him.

Good for you! Litter makes me crazy. ( I found your blog via the Great outdoors challenge) What sweet boys you have!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! I like to take my girls to our local playground to pick up litter on Earth Day, but it could be done at any time. Love how he took initiative to clean up the messes he saw!
