These are the Days...

We have a small backyard. When I say small I mean tiny! The fun thing is it's lined in Oleanders that are quite gangly and tall. Perfect hideouts for little guys, Michael has this favorite spot he's always hiding and playing in.

He has such a blast in this tiny little space. He comes up with all sorts of imaginative play. He loves to pretend he's a tiger in a jungle among other things.

He wanted me to move this cement block from his hiding spot until he discovered bugs underneath! I love watching his fascination with insects.

Last year he spent hours looking into the little bug habitat he made in a jar and making up all sorts of stories about them. He's started a new one this year with a couple of the Rollie Pollies (which are actually Crustaceans not insects) he found.

His favorite book is called, "Bugs: The World's Most Terrifying Insects". My Mom bought him this book on the night I went into labor with Owen. He could look at it for hours.

I love watching him be fascinated with all things nature. It brings me back to my days of roaming in nature and playing with worms & toads & such.

These are the days.

  1. Your blog is so much fun to explore. You have a great camera that captures your children so beautifully. I have chocolate eyes and I imagined my own children would too, but alas, they both have their grandpa's beautiful green eyes. Secret spots are so sweet for our children. I wrote a post recently about it too http://www.noblemother.com/2010/03/the-secret-place-of-childhood/
