I felt pretty ambitious at the thought of making soft pretzels with my boys. Then pleasantly surprised at how very easy it was. Why didn't we try this sooner!?
Yeast, sugar & water, flour & salt and some kneading then rise. A little dunk in some boiling soda water and bake. I was a little worried they wouldn't come out because the dough took twice as long to rise. However, I think it might be hard to mess them up! Easier then pie.
Even Owen was there to "help". Michael refused to knead the sticky dough. He is funny about touching anything sticky. But he did help me roll them out and shape them after the dough had raised. Actually, he did most of the work.
They were chewy, warm & delicious! As Michael can attest with this cinnamon sugar pretzel.
Here's a similar recipe to the one we tried. This recipe calls for using an electric mixer with a dough hook but you can knead the dough yourself for about 8 minutes. The recipe we used was in the now discontinued Martha Stewart Kids Magazine.
Try it! They are worth the minimal effort!

oh these look so good! i'm going to put it on my baking list for next week. thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog! These look delicious. I will have to try to find a recipe for them.
ReplyDeleteWe will make these very soon! They look yummy and fun to make. Thanks for the recipe.
ReplyDeleteThey are good with nacho cheese or pizza/spaghetti sauce as dippers. I don't usually do the baking soda bath and they're just as good, only faster!
