Mama, where's my frog?!

So, my dear little boy has such a good memory. Too good! When I try and clear out and get rid of our more "craptastic" toys. He always notices! Maybe not right away but eventually. Even if it's something he hardly noticed or played with in the first place. Such was the case with a tiny blue plastic frog. Michael searched for it and searched for it and asked me over and over, "Mama, where's my frog?!" He insisted we needed to buy another. Finally, I suggested we make one.

So I made him a great little striped frog from the Purl Bee. She offers this tutorial. It was a lot of fun and when he was done he needed a friend. So here are Jessica and August, from Michael's current favorite book, "An Extraordinary Egg" by Leo Lionni. After these little guys were finished we had to reenact the book over and over with our new friends.

And now I'm working on another frog for The Toy Society. The Toy society is this great movement that started in Australia and has spread across the world. Basically you make a toy and then put it in a plastic bag with a tag that says "take me home, I'm yours". Inside is a letter that explains further. You take your bagged handmade toy and leave it somewhere for whomever to find. You don't leave your name, only The Toy Society's name. 265 toys have been dropped around the world. Those that find the toy sometimes email the Toy Society blog telling them how much finding it meant to them. There are some really beautiful stories. I love the thought that whoever is meant to find the toy will find it and that this small act of kindness can really make someone's day.

So check out The Toy Society, if you're interested, and pass on the love.

  1. Good for you, suggesting making one and following throug. The frog is so cute...quite the incentive to pull out that sewing machine! I love Toy Society and hope to participate in the near future.
