Neurotic Nesting

Buddies Morgan & Michael

Yesterday, Michael was so content playing in the mud with his buddy Morgan. They filled a little hole with water and mushed it around with their hands. They dunked trucks, shovels and pails in it, they dug and played happily for hours and I couldn't get over how much it bothered my pregnant, nesting self.

Non-pregnant, I'm a bit of a neat freak. But pregnant? I'm ten times worse! Normally, I feel like playing in the mud is a childhood rite of passage. I balk when mothers won't let their children get dirty. I remember when I was a child and the free expanse of country space that I had to play in. Everyday in the summer would find us be making worm houses, catching crayfish in the creek (ditch), running around in our bare feet on green, soft grass or on hard, dirt roads. So, I couldn't help feeling a bit amused with my muddy agitation.

The neurotic nesting continued through out the day with the constant urge to sweep and vacuum my floors. It doesn't help that the floors at our new place are bright, white tile. They show every speck of dirt and it's driving me to insanity! I compulsively sweep, vacuum and mop. It's becoming an obsession and I think it'll really drive me insane once baby Owen comes and I can't get to it. Ah, well. Does anyone else have stories of neurotic nesting? I'd love to hear them!

  1. Take it EASY mama!!! We were trying to sell our house when I was pregnant with the second one...this made me even more OCD!!!! I was vacuuming one day and pulled a ligament or muscle in the stomach area and it caused such a horrible pain that I had to make a doc. visit, then was sent home and to bed. Nothing serious, but was lectured that I was overdoing it. So be careful and don't overdo it! Relax and enjoy Michael while he is an only child. :)

  2. Oh, yikes! That sounds painful. I'll try, but I'm telling you this floor keeps calling my name! Maybe I'll stick to the broom though. The vacuum has been hurting my back lately.

Thanks for the advice, I'll take it to heart.
