These are two of my favorite children's books right now. I found Elsa Beskow books last year at Christmas time through Magic Cabin. (By the way if you haven't checked out Magic Cabin, do! They have beautiful, quality toys.) I'm blown away by the magic, beauty and quiet simplicity of Elsa Beskow stories. Just some of the values that are imparted are a mystery, reverence & respect of nature, and spirit of giving and kindness.
These books have been reprinted for years.
Elsa Beskow (1874-1953), born Elsa Maartman in Stockholm, was a pioneering author and illustrator of childrens books in Swedenperhaps the best known of all Swedish childrens book artists. Her books were inspired by her own childhood experiences, as well as those of her six children. Central themes were the relationships between children and adults and childrens independent initiative. Her books are continually reprinted, and many have become classics. She also illustrated ABC books and songbooks for Swedish schools. (courtesy of Steiner Books)
Michael especially enjoys "Peter in Blueberry Land", because it's about a little boy who goes on an adventure. He wants to find berries for his Mother's birthday and runs into the King of Blueberry Land who shows him the way.
"Children of the Forest" is about a family who live in the roots of a pine tree. The family takes the reader through all four seasons and the work and play that is undertaken. Both, are magical, beautiful stories to treasure.

Those books are lovely. We're expanding our home library, and always like recomendations.
