Ogres, Can Openers & Control Freaks

It's too bad I didn't start this blog a long time ago, when Michael was little. There's so much that I would have loved to record here. Most of it is long gone; it's unbelievable how quickly you forget. There have been so many times when I was on the phone with my Mom saying I know there was some cute story I had wanted to tell you, but for the life of me I can't remember it.

Here are a few funny stories from the past year that I can remember.

Michael's Ogre Phase, almost 3 yrs
Michael met a little boy down the street. He said poking him in the chest, "Are you a boy?" The boy says yes, and Michael says pointing toward himself proudly, "I'm an Ogre!"

Feeling Territorial, 3 yrs
Another time at a friend's house Michael looked at a much larger little boy in my friends yard and said, "This is my swamp, donkey, my swamp”, in his best Shrek impersonation.

Can Opener, 3 ½ yrs
More recently Michael was playing all morning long with the manual can opener. I asked Michael curiously, “Why are you playing with the can opener?” Michael said “Shhh”, and pointing to the can opener he said very seriously, “He cuts, I think he kills.”

Control Freak, 3 ½ yrs
Just today I asked Michael “What are you going to be when you grow up? to which he asks “Who would want to be such a control freak?”, the lyrics from a favorite band. I guess he thinks it’s a bit too early to decide. Last month, Michael said “When I grow up I’m going to be Lightning McQueen and you can drive me!”

My Favorite, For Obvious Reasons, 3 ½ yrs
Michael was talking to our friend Cari who was looking at her daughter and saying something about her beautiful girl, her daughter. Michael pointed to me and said “that’s my beautiful girl”. Ah, my heart melts.

I love, I love, I love this phase. It’s too much fun.
